Minibosses are all over the place in the world of Elden Ring. Some hold onto treasure, while others guard a convenient pass, slaying any who would try to slip by. The Magma Wyrm is one of these minibosses, holding both noteworthy treasure and guarding important routes to interesting locations. What’s more, there are four dotted throughout the Lands Between, and each one is worth hunting down. The only question is, where can you find each Magma Wyrm in Elden Ring?
Magma Wyrm Makar

While you might not encounter Magma Wyrm Makar first, it is arguably the most important Magma Wyrm miniboss in Elden Ring. He can be found near the Ruin-Strewn Precipice, an alternative path to the Altus Plateau that doesn’t involve gathering medallion pieces for the Grand Lift of Dectus. You’ll need to make your way through the mines leading up to the Precipice, past the harpies, and over to the fog wall at the top of the scaffolding section. There waits Magma Wyrm Makar, ready to ambush anyone looking to sneak into the Altus Plateau.
A few paces into the arena, Magma Wyrm Makar will burst out from behind the central pillar, and will charge straight at you. If you’re patient, he isn’t too difficult to defeat. His attacks hurt, sure, but they are clearly telegraphed and slow to land. His overall movement is also quite sluggish, making it easy to dance around him and stay in his blind spots. That said, he will spew a torrent of magma if he can’t hit you, which will quickly pool and deal a lot of damage. Simply pull back a bit and attack his tail, if you have the reach. Keep up this maneuver battle for a relatively easy victory. If you’re struggling, you can always summon Great Horned Tragoth, the Blackguard if you’ve shared his interest in boiled prawns, and Millicent, if you’ve met with her.
Upon defeat, Magma Wyrm Makar will drop 24,000 Runes, a Dragon Heart, and a unique weapon – the Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword. You’ll also have unfettered access to the Altus Plateau, an excellent reward in itself.

Magma Wyrm in Gael Tunnel
The next, or perhaps for your playthrough, the first, Magma Wyrm can be found in Gael Tunnel. This can be found in Caelid, toward the western side of the map, right on the border with Limgrave. There is an entrance on the Limgrave side, but you’ll need to unlock it from the Caelid side first.
The Magma Wyrm awaits you as the miniboss of this particular dungeon. It is very similar to Magma Wyrm Makar in both equipment and fighting style, though it is overall easier to defeat. Follow the same patient approach, keeping out of the way of his Curved Greatsword and magma pools, for an easy win. Once defeated, this Magma Wyrm will drop 7,500 Runes, a Dragon Heart, and the incredibly good Moonveil Katana.
Magma Wyrm near Fort Laiedd

If you’ve been progressing Iron Fist Alexander’s questline, you’ll need to fight this Magma Wyrm sooner or later. It can be found near Fort Laiedd, which itself is quite close to Volcano Manor. To reach this area, you will either have to find the medallions for the Grand Lift of Dectus, or climb up the Ruin-Strewn Precipice and defeat Magma Wyrm Makar.
Once you’ve made it to Altus Plateau, you need to make your way north, past Lux Ruins, and to Wyndham Ruins. You’re on the right path if you’ve bumped into Ancient Dragon Lansseax. Once you’re at Wyndham Ruins, head over to the passage between the cliffs leading to Seethewater River. Follow this river all the way to Fort Laeidd, but don’t enter it. Instead, turn left until you reach a magma pond. The Magma Wyrm will burst from it once you get close enough.

Fighting this Magma Wyrm is mostly the same, although you can use Torrent to help if you want. If you’ve fought the previous two Magma Wyrms already, then you’ll probably find it easier to tackle this one on foot. If not, then you might find the extra mobility of Torrent helpful, making it easier to keep behind the Magma Wyrm and out of the line of fire. Once defeated, this Magma Wyrm drops 19,000 Runes and a Dragon Heart. No unique loot this time.
Magma Wyrm in Volcano Manor

The fourth and final Magma Wyrm can be found in Volcano Manor. Starting from the Site of Grace of the same name, head down the left corridor and open the door next to Rya’s room. Inside is an illusory wall, which hides the entrance to a secret passage within the walls of Volcano Manor. Follow the passage until it opens up into a chamber with stairs leading further down. Head down these stairs and sneak past the Bloodhound Knight, then follow the linear path to the next Site of Grace, the Prison Town Church.
Once at the Church, exit and turn right. You’ll need to hop along the rooftops over to the bridge visible from this ledge. Cross the bridge and climb up the ladder to the right of the building. You can jump into this building through a window, but be ready for a fight once you land. Head down the stairs until you’re at the bottom floor, then touch the Guest Hall Site of Grace. Head outside, down the ladder, then go up the stairs a little further into the town. At the top will be two cage elevators; take the one on the right.

In the lava river is the final Magma Wyrm, just as easy or difficult as you found the last three. The same approach works here, but beware of the added hazard of the lava river; it’s easy to get backed into it and end up as a well-done snack. Once this Magma Wyrm is defeated, it drops 5,400 Runes and a Dragon Heart. Again, no unique items are to be found here. With this Magma Wyrm defeated, you’ll have vanquished all four members of the scaly quartet. That said, there are plenty of other dragons to test your mettle against, if you’re aiming to collect more Dragon Hearts.
